The Summer Palace!

Today I met up with 2 Czech girls who are doing an internship at the Czech embassy, Em and Petra, they were both really nice. We went to the summer palace, which is where the royal family of China would go to reside in the summer. It was huge (around 750 acres)! The royals must have had a jolly old time. It was a lovely day today, the sun was shining and there was barely any pollution, but this meant that it was soooo hot - especially for sightseeing! (could probably have managed lying by a pool!) So we didnt spend as long there as we might have done otherwise. The park was very beautiful, there is a huge lake called the "Kunming Lake" which is actually man made! It was nice by the lake as there was a good breeze. We were surprised how many chinese there were visiting the summer palace, I think sometimes we forget that China is more than Beijing!

It was interesting to hear Em and Petra's point of view on Beijing, they've already been here a month and have about 3 weeks left. However, I think  their experience has been quite different to mine as they have been living in the embassy, and so with many other Czechs, they have also had each other and other interns to do things with.

Here are some snaps we took at the summer palace:

The summer palace - we think!
